Leadership
Here at the University of Alabama, there are many ways to lead. I had the pleasure of attending the College of Communications and Information Sciences lead retreat in Panama City Beach, Florida. I was able to finally consider myself as a leader.
A leader is an admirable position to accept - leaders are engaging, confident, and communicative. People look up to leaders and leaders should look up to people, because leaders are only as good at the people they lead. Everyone cannot be a leader. At the retreat I had the opportunity to learn from other leaders’ failures, obstacles, and challenges. I was able to find lessons and experiences on my own to better equip me for future leadership.
It takes work to build leadership skills, which may vary depending on the industry you’re working in. After obtaining my Bachelors degree, I plan on working behind the scenes to prepare myself for leadership roles in my career. You must first believe that you are a leader. If I bring good energy as a leader of a group, the group will come to accept my position and my vision for the team. Before I walk in a room, I will prepare myself and say that I am strong and that I am a leader. Confidence is key and positive validation is a delicacy!
